About
Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic is a survival horror game developed by Steel Wool Studios, published by ScottGames and released for the PlayStation 5 and Steam in June 2025. The game is considered the eleventh main installment in the Five Nights at Freddy's (FNAF) series and the fourteenth game overall. The story follows a Fazbear Entertainment employee named Arnold exploring the abandoned Murray Costume Manor while fleeing from The Mimic, an animatronic endoskeleton that can adapt to the many mascot costumes in the workshop. The game received fairly positive reviews from critics and fans of the survival horror franchise, with many gameplay clips, fan art and memes gaining viral attention on Twitter / X, Reddit, YouTube and TikTok.
History
On June 18th, 2024, ScottGames[1] posted about FNAF's 10th Anniversary, claiming that something big would be "released each day from August 1st through August 8th."[2] On August 6th, 2024, Steel Wool Studios[3] uploaded a teaser of Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic horror game, describing it as "a brand new original nightmare in the Five Nights at Freddy's universe." The video amassed more than 1 million views and 95,000 likes in a year.
The game was officially released for PlayStation 5 and Steam[4] on June 13th, 2025.
Reception
According to Metacritic[5], Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic accumulates an 8.2 out of 10 score based on 57 user reviews. On June 6th, 2025, YouTuber[6] Johnny the Night Guard uploaded a video summarizing some of the mixed expectations among FNAF's fans for the new game, which amassed over 137,000 views and 5,200 likes in two weeks.
Online Reactions
The new installment in the FNAF franchise was quickly played by many streamers during its first week of release. For example, on June 12th, 2025, YouTuber and Twitch streamer Dawko posted his gameplay of Secret of the Mimic to YouTube[7], receiving roughly 644,000 views and 39,000 likes in a week.
On June 17th, 2025, TikTok[8] user @emeenieemedina uploaded a video about the confusing lore added to the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise with the addition of the Secrets of the Mimic game. The post amassed over 610,000 plays and 163,000 likes in three days.
