Gastly Humidifier refers to a 3D-Printed humidifier based on the ghost-type Pokémon Gastly. The product was created in May 2022 and gained viral attention in late 2023, especially on TikTok. The item also was the center of a Gastly Humidifier Scam in December 2023 after some people who had bought the product complained about its quality and efficiency as a humidifier.

History

On May 2nd, 2022, the 3D-printer enthusiast Kim Chengdu^[1] uploaded a workshop titled "Gastly – With Water Fog That Colorerd by the Light of LED," showing a step-by-step guide on how to create the Gastly humidifier item. His post (shown below) received 29,000 views and 58 favorites on the website.

Online Presence

The Gastly humidifier's earliest online appearance was posted by TikTok^[2] user @linkeking6^[2], who demonstrated the item working (shown below, left), amassing over 8 million plays and 1 million likes since posted on November 25th, 2023. The same creator posted a few weeks later, on December 14th, 2023, a new demo^[3] of the product's usage (shown below, right), which quickly went viral, receiving over 27 million plays and 3 million likes in a month.

Gastly Humidifier Scam

On December 30th, 2023, Silent News^[4] posted an article analyzing the Gastly humidifier's functional purpose and legitimacy. The article says the item may not be labeled a scam, but advises that "thorough research on similar products is crucial before making a purchasing decision." On January 9th, 2024, TikTok^[5] user @queenoaksoul shared a video commenting on the product's quality (shown below), saying it was "the most disappointing purchase she ever had from TikTok. The video amassed over 2 million plays and 121,000 likes in a day.
