The Pokémon Trading Card Game is a tabletop card game based on the Pokémon video game series.

History

The Pokémon Trading Card Game was first released in Japan by Media Factory on October 20th, 1996, and was later released in the United States by Wizards of the Coast on January 9th, 1999.[1]

Console Games

Two video games based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game were released for the Game Boy Color. The first game, titled Pokémon Trading Card Game, first released in Japan on December 18th, 1998, and later released in the United States on April 10th, 2000.[2] A sequel to the game was released only in Japan on March 28th, 2001,[3] which continues from the story of the first game.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Online

A web browser game based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game was released on March 24th, 2011, and would later receive ports to Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android.[4] The game was discontinued on June 5th, 2023, just days before the global launch of its successor, Pokemon Trading Card Game Live.

The successor to Pokemon Trading Card Game Online was announced on The Official Pokémon YouTube channel on September 20th, 2021.[5] It was first released as a Canadian-exclusive beta release on February 22nd, 2022, and wouldn't release globally until June 8th, 2023.



Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket

Another mobile phone game based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game was announced for Android and iOS by The Official Pokémon YouTube channel on February 27th, 2024.[6][7] The game would later release on October 30th, 2024.
