We Bought Two Cakes, also shortened to Two Cakes, is a meme originating from the Hasbro animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Typically featuring a still frame of the character of Fluttershy wearing an odd expression, it exists as an exploitable meme and a reaction image series, and has spawned a large volume of tribute art.

Origin

The still frame used in examples of the meme are taken from episode 7 of season 5 of the Friendship is Magic series, "Make New Friends But Keep Discord",^[3] as seen at roughly 0:14 in the video below.

The first submission of the meme to the MLP image hosting site Derpibooru was of a short GIF of the original scene,^[1] including Fluttershy making the face. The image was submitted on May 16th, 2015, the same day that the episode aired.

Spread

Templates of Fluttershy's face were made, the earliest of which featured a PNG image of her wearing her usual hairstyle on a transparent background (shown below, left). The image, submitted to DeviantArt^[4] by cheezedoodle96 on the same day that the episode aired, was then posted to Derpibooru^[5] by the same user. A similar template, featuring Fluttershy's entire visible body in the original frame,^[6] was uploaded by masemj (below, right).

As of January 2016, Derpibooru hosts 77 images featuring the meme.^[2] The highest-rated (safe for work) submission^[7] is a detailed artistic rendering of the frame, sourced from a May 17th DeviantArt submission by mrs1989.^[8]

The most popular Youtube video of the meme, with over 93000 views, was uploaded by Taceo on May 24th and consists of a short excerpt from the original scene redone in source filmmaker.
