What the Flip / What the Fuck / What the Skibidi refers to a webcomic showing three characters with speech bubbles saying different versions of "WTF," reading, "what the flip", "what the fuck" and "what the skibidi." The image inspired a redraw art trend on Twitter / X in mid-2024 in which artists drew fan art of their favorite character trio saying each line. TikToker @bxsql created the original cartoon in a photo slideshow that was posted in June 2024. The artist later created a new version that added a fourth character saying, "What the Sigma?"

Origin

On June 9th, 2024, TikToker^[8] @bxsql posted a photo slideshow that was a comic called, "Trio Stuff because I'm BORED." It received over 11.9 million plays and 1.8 million likes in two months. The slideshow's third slideshow displayed three characters (green, purple and blue) each saying a version of "WTF," reading in order, "what the flip," "what the fuck" and "what the skibidi" (shown below).

Spread

On June 14th, 2024, TikToker^[6] @bxsql posted another photo slideshow that was a comic called "Quartet Stuff!!" It received roughly 1.3 million plays and 193,900 likes in two months. The comic's first slide showed the abovementioned characters with a fourth saying "what the sigma" (shown below).

On July 1st, 2024, a CapCut ^[7] template was created with the abovementioned image called "Trios" which cropped out the fourth character saying "what the sigma." The template received over 132,200 uses in a month, however, none of them were largely viral.

On August 5th, 2024, X^[1] user @naviilicious posted the cropped version of the original webcomic, captioned, "I can think of so many trios I JUST WISH I COULD DRAW SCREW EVERYTHING 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭," The post received roughly 7,700 likes in one week (shown below).

The abovementioned post started a trend among artists on X who redrew their favorite characters into the format. For example, on August 7th, 2024, X^[2] user @0601Fuyu uploaded fan art of Deltarune characters and received more than 17,000 likes in one week (shown below, left).

On August 9th, X^[3] user @bocchidaily uploaded an edit with Bocchi The Rock! characters, receiving more than 9,700 likes in five days (shown below, right).

On August 9th, X^[4] user @pinkpink939 uploaded an iteration, receiving more than 13,000 likes in five days (shown below, left).

On August 10th, X^[5] user @_MaryEpiphany uploaded an iteration with Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Deadpool. The post received more than 19,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).
