X If It Was Woke is a phrasal template used in a series of ironic memes parodying complaints about the "woke" ideology through humorous exaggeration of liberals and progressives, with names of characters in a certain media replaced with their "woke" versions. Spawned by the Libral Scool Be Like meme, the format has been in use since August 2021, particularly on Twitter / X.

Origin

On August 14th, 2021, X^[1] / Twitter user @williamwannaw (previously @willawannaVEVO) made a post titled "LIBRAL SCOOL BE LIKE:" parodying complains about "woke" ideology by replacing school classes with their grotesquely "woke" versions. The post, deliberately written with poor grammar reminiscent of the Log by Bolb joke, garnered over 1,100 reposts and 3,400 likes in four years (shown below).

In the following months, the post saw viral spread online as it was reposted. For example, on October 27th, 2021, X^[2] account @RightWingCope made a repost that received over 1,100 reposts and 11,000 likes in four years.

On November 24th, 2021, X^[3] user @vampiric_shirin posted the earliest found derivative meme based on the original post, a joke about "Liberal Thanksgiving." The post (shown below) received over 2,600 reposts and 11,000 likes in three years.

On October 16th, 2023, X^[4] user @SuperMarioOOC85 made a similar joke about Super Mario Bros. Wonder, altering the format by changing the opening to "Super Mario Bros. Wonder if it was WOKE" while preserving the structure. The post (shown below) received over 1,500 reposts and 16,000 likes in one year.

On May 29th, 2024, X^[5] user @mithseal posted a Delicious in Dungeon meme based on the format, subverting the joke by using the set up without changing any of the character names to imply that the show was already woke as is. The meme (shown below) gained over 2,000 reposts and 16,000 likes in nine months.

Original, subverted and combined versions of the meme saw further spread online through 2024 and early 2025.
