You've Heard of Bigfoot, Now Get Ready for Smallhand is a word play joke about an unknown rival to the cryptid ape creature Bigfoot. After circulating on Tumblr in July 2015, the joke inspired many variations on the microblogging site using the phrasal template "You've heard of X, now get ready for Y," typically contrasting two diametrically opposed terms.

Origin

On July 12th, 2015, Tumblr user fuck-bono submitted a post with the phrase "You've heard of bigfoot….. now get ready for smallhand" (shown below). Within two months, the post gained over 107,000 notes.

On July 25th, Twitter user @femmedeity[6] tweeted two illustrations of Bigfoot's "lesser known rival, smallhand" (shown below). On August 3rd, the Meme Documentation[2] Tumblr blog published an explanation of the meme along with a tagged list[3] of notable examples.



The same day, Tumblr user tiffanarchy[4] submitted the variation ” You've heard of Big Anime Tiddies, now get ready for church." Within three weeks, the post garnered upwards of 52,000 notes. On August 6th, Tumblr user dcnkey[7] posted "You've heard of panic! at the disco, now get ready for relax. at the country club," accumulating over 123,000 notes in two weeks. On August 11th, Tumblr user prismatictemptress[8] posted the joke "You've heard of sugar daddy, now get ready for salty mommy." In nine days, the post received upwards of 127,000 notes. On August 20th, Tumblr[5] user dfabatter published a post with the phrase "You've heard of build-a-bear worshop. Now get ready for destroy-a-duck wasteland," gathering more than 23,300 notes in less than 24 hours.

Elf on the Shelf Variants

On December 3rd, 2016, Tumblr[10] user fuckin-rockets posted a variation with the phrase "You've heard of Elf on the Shelf." Under that caption, they posted a picture of an Ash Ketchum action figure in a garbage can (the implied rhyme being "Ash in the trash"). The post (shown below) received more than 53,000 notes within 10 months.

On September 14th, 2017, Redditors /r/me_irl subreddit began posting "Elf on the Shelf" variants en masse. That day, [9] PM_ME_YOUR_CHEETOS posted an image with the caption "You've heard of Elf on the Shelf, now get ready for" and an image of Shrek on a backyard deck in the The post (shown below, left) received more than 19,000 points (19% upvoted) and 200 comments. Redditor[12] pebblesom posted the character Waluigi on a squeegee (shown below, center), garnering more than 20,000 points (93% upvoted) and 280 comments. Additionally, Redditor[13] Havokmin posted a picture of Link from The Legend of Zelda on a sink (shown below, right), receiving more than 5,000 points (95% points) and 85 comments.
