Zoomer is a colloquial name for the members of Generation Z (Gen Z). The meme originated as a Wojak character spread on 4chan mocking Gen Z adolescents and young adults, similar to how 30-Year-Old Boomer is used to mock older millennials. Often used in copypastas such as "that 15 year old zoomer who proposed to his crush on messenger", Zoomer is depicted as Wojak wearing shaved sides, slicked back haircut and round glasses, who loves mumble rap and battle royale video games.

Origin

On July 21st, 2018, an anonymous 4chan user posted the first known thread featuring the Zoomer Wojak, as well as the world "zoomer" itself, in a /r9k/ thread.^[1] In the image, a poster of American rapper 6ix9ine and a computer monitor with 4chan opened in the browser were shown.

Spread

In the following hours, multiple threads using the image and copying the post format were posted on /fit/,^[2] /his/^[3] and other 4chan boards.

In the following weeks, threads in which the character was showing a different, crying expression were used to mock people falling under the Gen Z age range. Interests such as affection for rapper 6ix9ine and mumble rap in general, love for battle royale games such as Fortnite and tendency to perform Floss and other dances associated with the game were among the ridiculed traits of the character.

On June 28th, 2018, an anonymous 4chan user posted the first known image of a crying Zoomer in a /v/ thread,^[4] responding to a photograph of the 30-year-old Boomer graffiti by Lushlux in a greentext format.

In the following months the character, along with 30-Year-Old Boomer, and, later, Doomer and Bloomer, gained a significant presence in video edits on YouTube. Multiple notable videos featuring the characters were created by YouTube users Prince of Zimbabwe^[5] and Shuzzo.^[6]

In memes, Zoomer is often unintentionally antagonized by 30-Year-Old Boomer, sometimes by being forced to listen to loud hard rock music and/or lawnmower noises.
