Providing it follows the naming rules for variable types, you can give your variables whatever name you like, as long as you are consistent and do your best not to let your own naming conventions confuse you or other programmers who work on your program. As long as all the programmers know what "idiots", "$problem", or "stalker" mean or represent in the code, they can, uh, knock themselves out.
