Overview

The 2018 Zoosadism Scandal refers to a public backlash against members of the furry community stemming from reports of bestiality, necrophilia, and animal torture.

Background

On September 16th, 2018, Twitter ^[1] user @zoodonym tweeted a link to a Telegram messages from various platforms of members of the furry community describing themselves as "hard zoo," discussing bestiality, necrophilia and making videos in which animals are harmed and/or killed. They captioned the tweet, "Click this. No more covering for these people. THESE ARE NOT WHAT ZOOPHILES ARE."

They continued, "We may disagree on things, but I'm sure you can agree that there are some things that even enemies can meet on. Animal abuse, rape, torture, and murder… hopefully these are some things. Check the logs. You'll find more."

The tweet contained messages allegedly from prominent members of the Furry community, including Kero The Wolf, Xyro, Glofox, Sephius Rivendare, Tekkita, Digivolve, Corneil Grimond, Emberwolf and Techno Husky.^[2]

Online Reaction

On September 16th, 2018, Kiwi Farms ^[4] user Reality Doctor posted "Zoosadism Megathread – Joshua "Kero the Wolf" Hoffman & Friends." The post inspired more than 245 pages of conversation.

Two days later, on September 20th, a Redditor ^[5] in the /r/HobbyDrama subreddit posted, "[Furry Fandom] Kero the Wolf Zoophile Scandal." They wrote, "Popular Furry youtuber exposed as a Zoophile and Necrophile. Still debatable by some whether it actually is legitimate."

Woof's Arrest

On November 24th, 2018, Twitter^[3] user @DogpatchPress tweeted that "Cuban media has exposed Rubén Marrero Pernas, AKA "Woof", perhaps the most extreme member of the zoosadist ring" (shown below). According to their report, Pernas faced no charges because of lax animal welfare laws in Cuba. However, many protesters called for his arrest. They write, "So the Cuban people hit the streets with public protest to ask their government for new laws because of him -- an exceptional happening in a repressive country. There are claims that it’s the first officially-sanctioned, independently-organized, non-government-associated protest in their nation’s history."

On July 3rd, 2019, YouTuber Archive the Wolf published the video called "Woof, the Demon from Cuba." In the video, the YouTuber exposes some of the exploits of Woof. The post received more than 56,000 views in less than two years (shown below).

Woof's Apology

According to the YouTuber DeadwingDork, Woof later apologized for the abuse. The YouTuber says the apology states that "metal music made him fuck dogs to death." The post received more than 367,000 views in less than two years (shown below).

Kero The Wolf's Return

YouTuber Kero the Wolf was named as a member of the ring. On October 15th, 2018, YouTuber WaitWaitFixate published the video "The ABRIDGED TRUTH About Kero The Wolf." In the video, the YouTuber explains why they believe that Kero the Wolf is guilty of participating in the ring, alleging that the messages and photos coming from Kero could not be forged (shown below, left).

On March 12th, 2021, Kero the Wolf published a video entitled "My Side." In the video, Kero explains that following the initial leaks, police took a statement from him. Months later, they returned with a search warrant for Kero's computer. He claims that no changes have been brought as of March 2021. The post received more than 106,000 views in less than one month (shown below, right). In the video, Kero explains how easy it would be to fabricate the chat logs in question. He also claims that the people in the video that many believed to be Kero has a tattoo, which Kero does not have.

That day, Kero the Wolf tweeted,^[6] "After 2 long years of forced silence, I am making my return to the fandom, and to YouTube. Please watch my latest video, where I finally share my side." The tweet received more than 1,700 retweets and 340 likes in less than one month (shown below).
