Blood Diamond Pants is a reference to the generic, olive drab brand of cargo pants worn by actor Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2006 Blood Diamond (film).
A request on the militaryphotos.net forums[1] by member "Godspeed" [2]to identify the item of clothing from the movie drew swift rebuke and minor flaming.
The site is often used by enthusiasts to identify real-world military equipment, camouflage patterns and weaponry. However this request was considered by moderators and other forum members to be laughable because of the difficulty in identifying such generic clothing and because of the source, a Hollywood movie.
Reference to Blood Diamond Pants (or simply BDP) is now used frequently at militaryphotos.net and other sites concerned with military equipment and clothing to ridicule foolish statements or inquiries
"Godspeed", the forum member who posted the orignal request, took the teasing in good humour and is still an active member. DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor at the 2007 Academy Awards for his performance in Blood Diamond.
