About
Dirty Bubble Challenge refers to an exploitable image taken from the Spongebob Squarepants episode "Have You Seen This Snail?" The Dirty Bubble Challenge is to attempt to hit a ball on a paddle over 29 trillion times in a row. In the exploitables, the card showing the challenge changes "hit the paddle ball" with something else.
Origin
In "Have You Seen This Snail?", which aired November 11th, 2005.[1] In the episode, Spongebob undertakes the "Dirty Bubble Challenge," which is to hit a paddleball over 29 trillion times. During the episode, a card lays out the rules (shown below).
Spread
Parodies of the image first started spreading in December of 2016. One of the earliest known posts appeared on Instagram user verythicc's[2] account on December 11th, 2016 (shown below, left). It is unclear if the user was the first to post the parody. On May 10th, 2017, a Respect Women parody appeared on /r/dankmemes,[3] gaining over 1,600 points (shown below, right).
The joke continued to see minor spread over the following two years. On February 24th, 2018, a compilation of memes appeared on Amino Apps[4] as part of a Photoshop Battle (example shown below, left). More recently, an Expand Dong example posted to /r/expanddong[5] on February 15th, 2019, gained over 1,100 points (shown below, right).
