Gunga Ginga, sometimes written as Go Ginga, is an onomatopoeic expression loudly repeated in videos created by Viner Elpresador. In July 2019, the Vines inspired a series of remix videos widely circulated on Instagram, in which Elpresador's audio was dubbed over various short clips.
Origin
The original Vines may have been removed from the platform. According to a comment posted by Redditor DooceBigalo,[1] Elpresador's channel had been "deleted." On January 5th, 2013, YouTuber Cooter[4] uploaded a montage of Elpresador's "Gunga Ginga" Vines (shown below).
Spread
On April 14th, 2015, YouTuber BarbWalters[3] uploaded a compilation of Gunga Ginga Elpres Vines (shown below, left). Within four years, the video accumulated upwards of 609,000 views and 1,900 comments. On June 24th, 2019, YouTuber Nirwia[5] uploaded another compilation of Vines titled "Gunga Ginga Guy" (shown below, right).
On June 28th, Instagram user @bepiz.man[2] uploaded a clip from the film Madagascar using audio from Elpresador's Vines (shown below). Within three weeks, the video gained more than 509,000 views and 44,000 likes.
On July 9th, ZiggyTV uploaded a compilation of Gunga Ginga remix videos from Instagram (shown below, left).
YouTuber The following day, YouTuber Charmx uploaded a video of himself reacting to the compilation video (shown below, right).
