Han Solo and Shrek Dress the Same is an observation posted to the subreddit /r/showerthoughts that led to the creation of photoshops and other jokes attempting to prove or reiterate the point.

Origin

On August 6th, 2018, user IqtaKadabra posted "Shrek and Han Solo kinda dress the same" to /r/showerthoughts,^[1] where it gained over 51,000 notes. In the ensuing thread, a user posted a picture for evidence (shown below).

Spread

The thought was reposted to Tumblr by /r/just-shower-thoughts the same day, gaining over 125,000 notes.^[2] The phrase started becoming more popular in January of 2019 when several popular posts referenced it. For example, a tweet by @poohcowboy gained over 15,000 retweets and 49,000 likes (shown below, left). On January 14th, a popular example of the Lidl Oil meme using the phrase gained over 23,000 points (shown below, right).

Other popular posts to use the phrase include a post by ShadowFox0117 that gained over 17,000 points (shown below, left). Another post by Grammatikaas posted an edit that gained over 40 points (shown below, right).
