About
Minecraft Movie Audience Reactions, also known as Minecraft Cinema Reactions or A Minecraft Movie Theater Behavior Controversy, refers to a series of videos capturing the movie theater audience's reactions to the Minecraft movie quotes and general etiquette at the screenings from attendees. The trend started during the film's premiere in early April 2025, usually showing crowds cheering, applauding or causing havoc as actor Jack Black playing his character Steve utters lines related to the video game or previous memes that had gone viral on social media, similar to the July 2022 Gentleminions trend. The most common reactions happen during the "I Am Steve," "Chicken Jockey" and "Flint and Steel" scenes. Going into mid-April 2025, TikTokers and other social media users started to record and rank audiences reacting to the Minecraft Movie quotes at screenings, as well as many posting complaints about the behavior of rowdy moviegoers. The trend caused cinema staff to warn people of overreacting to the movie quotes during the screening, with one incident escalating to police being called to a theater after cinemagoers became disruptive during the Chicken Jockey scene.

Various threads complaining about the rambunctious and rude behavior of some Minecraft Movie attendees started appearing on Reddit after the film's release in early April 2025, including subreddits such as /r/mildlyinfuriating[5] and /r/britishproblems.[6] The /r/mildlyinfuriating post from Redditor Capital_Invite_7026 on April 7th garnered over 480 upvotes and 360 comments in 12 hours, which read:
I know this is an old man take, but I went to A Minecraft Movie and it was a packed theatre, probably half families half high school/college kids. The teenagers were throwing popcorn and giving standing ovations every time something that was featured in a trailer happened and it really pissed me off. There were kids in the audience who probably were genuinely excited and people who were there to see it ironically were ruining it. I think I would be less mad if it wasn't a three o'clock show. If you want to go and be loud and distespectful at a kids movie, go to the late show.
Memes referencing this behavior from moviegoers also appeared online during the same timeframe. For instance, on April 5th, Redditor Benjam438 posted a Chicken Jockey meme to the /r/okbuddyretard[8] subreddit that received over 6,700 upvotes and 40 comments in two days (shown below).
