About

Pootis Status refers to a series of Team Fortress 2 video edits where a clip from the Pootis video "Pootis Engage // EXTREME" is edited over an unrelated video clip in a bait-and-switch manner. The video titles always include the catchphrase "pootis status," a turn on the phrase "shitpost status." The trend began in October 2022 and is similar to the Revengeance Status meme.

Origin

On February 19th, 2022, YouTuber[1] ceno0 posted a video titled, "Pootis Engage // EXTREME," a 13-minute sequel to their 2020 YouTube[2] upload "Pootis Engage." The video, made in Source Filmmaker, features a long, stylized fight between characters from Team Fortress 2 (shown below).

On October 22nd, YouTuber[3] Kestrel Agent posted the first known "pootis status" video, where a clip from "Pootis Engage // EXTREME" interrupts another video, garnering over 10,200 views in five days (shown below).

Spread

The trend spread over the following days on YouTube. On October 23rd, 2022, YouTuber[4] trippintillimpurple posted a version of the meme, garnering over 32,000 views in four days (shown below, left). That day, YouTuber[5] Soup Can uploaded a version of the meme using the Rawr x3 video, garnering over 40,000 views in the same span of time (shown below, right).

Pootis

Pootis is a phrase said by the Heavy Weapons Guy[1] in the online FPS game Team Fortress 2. It is a shortened version of the Heavy's voice command "Put dispenser here," which is used to request a Dispenser.[2] It has similar usage to GOTTAM and PINGAS. In 2020 a video titled Pootis Engage became notably popular, inspiring Pootis Engage Extreme in 2022.

Revengeance Status

Revengeance Status refers to a series of bait-and-switch videos that end with a song or scene from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to serve as a nonsensical punchline. Over time, the videos started by showing a suggestive or sexual situation and as the video is about to get explicit, it transitions into a fight between Raiden and Senator Armstrong, often while "Standing Here I Realize" plays in the background.
