Princess Peach Hand on Hip Pose is an animation and pose struck by the character Princess Peach in the 2005 sports video game Super Mario Strikers in which she puts one hand on her hip, one hand in the air and leans to one side, accentuating her posterior. An image of Peach striking the pose, taken from behind, gained viral spread online throughout the 2010s and early 2020s, becoming the subject of fan art, redraws and memes. In July 2024, the image became the significant subject of redraws on X / Twitter.

Origin

On November 8th, 2005, Super Mario Strikers was released in Europe and then in North America that December. The game notably features intro animations for its playable characters. Princess Peach's intro features her waving to the crowd and, at one point, placing a hand on her hip, one in the air, and leaning sideways.

A clip of Peach striking the pose was posted to YouTube as part of a Let's Play video as early as July 29th, 2011, by YouTuber^[1] KoopaKungFu, garnering over 1.2 million views in 13 years (shown below). The video notably uses the screenshot of Peach striking the pose as its thumbnail and the moment where she strikes the pose is shown to be the most viewed moment.

On February 5th, 2013, DeviantArt^[2] user Onikage108 posted a screenshot of the pose titled "Princess Peach Sweet Angle," garnering over 10,000 views in 11 years (shown below). This is the earliest known upload of the screenshot online.

Spread

The image gained viral spread throughout the late 2010s and early 2020s, also inspiring redraws. On February 23rd, 2018, it was posted to the subreddit /r/gaming^[3] with the title, "Now I understand why they call her Princess Peach 🍑," garnering over 800 upvotes in six years. On May 3rd, 2019, DeviantArt^[4] user virtuablueam2 posted a render of Peach striking the pose that gained over 12,000 views in five years.

On July 13th, 2024, X^[5] user @pichitime posted a screenshot of Peach doing the pose, garnering over 25,000 likes and 2,400 reposts in 10 days. The post inspired a wave of redraws in the following days and weeks. For example, on July 16th, X^[6] user @Zawaray posted a redraw that gained over 3,600 likes in a week (shown below, left). On July 17th, X^[7] user @Lickaghost posted a redraw that gained over 1,200 likers in six days (shown below, right).

On July 19th, X^[8] artist @berry_chuuu posted a redraw of the image in which a "Live Pauline Reaction" image, based on the live Tucker reaction meme, is added to the left of Peach's posterior, garnering over 29,000 likes in four days (shown below).

Numerous examples of the redraws were also posted to Tumblr^[9] around the same time that they were going viral on X.

On July 21st, 2024, X^[10] user @SushiBurgerrr posted a GIF based on the image, garnering over 21,000 likes and 1,900 reposts in two days (shown below, left). On the same day, X^[11] user @hoezayburger posted a redraw adding an angry Bowser face to the bottom-right corner, captioning the post, "she's.. not very impressed by his performance," garnering over 2,600 likes in two days (shown below, right).
