About
Roblox Code Rotting refers to old Roblox games that have experienced some level of code rot, meaning that updates to the Roblox engine and site have caused older, unupdated and neglected games to experience bugs and glitches.
In late May and early June 2026, videos that explore and seek out code rotting in Roblox games were popularized as players of the popular game Royale High started noticing what they believed to be code rotting in the game's older worlds. This inspired further code rotting exploration videos over the following weeks, sparking discourse about the phenomenon online.
Origin
In the context of Roblox, code rot happens when Roblox goes through significant updates over time, causing older and unmaintained games to get buggy and glitchy as the code changes. Discussions about code rotting in the game primarily began to appear in late May and early June 2026.

On May 25th, the @RoyaleHighValks X[4] / Twitter page, the official page for Royale High, made a post sharing the news that the game's developer, Vioncii, passed away after a tragic accident. The post gained over 20,000 likes in two weeks.
On May 26th, 2026, the developers made another post on X[5] directly addressing the code rotting allegations, writing:
Rest assured, we still have developers actively monitoring bugs and working on fixes. We did see an increase in reports involving older realms this week, and while most of the team isn’t operating at full capacity just yet, Ice7 has already rolled out several patches so players can continue enjoying the nostalgia of the classic realms which until recently, didn’t have very many active players.
They acknowledged that updates to Roblox have impacted the game and that they're working on patching things up. The post reads, "Right now, it simply hasn’t felt appropriate for us to post as frequently or push anyone to work on low priority bug fixes, as members of the team are grieving from a recent major loss of a loved developer on the team."

@forgottenfuture1 Roblox Code Rotting: Greenwood Town. Genuinely very sad to see the game in this state, this was one of the first games I ever played all them years ago. Perhaps I could make a series out of this. #coderot #roblox #coderotting #scaryroblox #rotting ♬ Fallen D. – Undoing

@forgottenfuture1 Roblox Code Rotting: Zombie Survival! (EXTREME CODE ROT). This was a pretty fun visit, it's a shame to see all the guns in here just don't seem to work anymore. If anyone could find a way to kill the zombies then please let me know, but otherwise i think this game is just unplayable really. The badges do still seem available though for people who want to collect them. #Roblox #scaryroblox #Robloxhorror #robloxtrend ♬ Chthonic Symphony – AKIRA YAMAOKA

@forgottenfuture1 Roblox Code Rotting: Tsunami Survival! This was another very popular game from the early 2010s with over 3M views. The game still seems to be functional but there are defintely some parts which aren't functioning as intended. Still worth a try I think! Leave a comment if you would like me to explore another code rotting roblox game. ##roblox #rotting #scaryroblox #robloxhorror #robloxtrend ♬ Chthonic Symphony – AKIRA YAMAOKA
