To Survive In the Wild refers to an exploitable Safely Endangered comic in which a man explains "To survive in the wild, you need a reliable source of water. He then insults a person, who begins crying. The first character slurps up the tears with a straw. In the exploitables, what the first character says to make the second cry is changed.
Origin
On May 29th, 2017, Safely Endangered uploaded the comic "Survive" to the site Webtoons.[1] Two days later, a four-panel version was uploaded to Twitter, [2] where it gained over 280 retweets and 890 likes. This is the version that became the exploitable (shown below).
Spread
The comic was turned into an exploitable shortly after its publication. One of the earliest known variations was posted to Imgur on June 2nd, 2017,[3] featuring a political point about Donald Trump (shown below).
In the following months, dozen more variations appeared, generally featuring some sort of unpopular opinion or fact stated in the second panel. Another popular early example posted June 4th to /r/anime featured news that the Attack on Titan anime's second season would feature 12 episodes, gaining over 270 points (shown below, left). Edits generally appeared on various subreddits depending on the content of the exploitable. The format appeared on /r/MemeEconomy[4] on August 30th, 2017, where it gained over 940 points (shown below).
