Can You Lock the Fuck In is an exploitable meme format in which a speech bubble reading, "Can you lock the fuck in" is attached to a character. The meme was popularized on X / Twitter in late February 2025 through early March after the template was posted to the app by @Yumeverses, encouraging users to "Make your f/o tell you to lock in." The meme garnered viral spread to sites including Tumblr and Instagram.

Origin

On February 28th, 2025, X[1] user @Yumeverses posted a meme template consisting of a white background with a speech bubble in the top-right corner reading, "Can you lock the fuck in," garnering over 36,000 likes and 6,300 reposts in four days. The post reads, "Make your f/o tell you to lock in :3," "f/o" meaning "fictional other," or someone who you have a strong connection with.

The earliest apparent meme to use the speech bubble was posted that day as a comment under the post by X[2] user @febreezylalala, who attached it to Aku from Samurai Jack, garnering roughly 100 likes in four days.

The template continued to inspire memes over the following days. On March 2nd, 2025, X[3] user @CrownedSaeraph posted a version of the meme using their character Fish, garnering over 8,000 likes in two days. On March 3rd, X[4] user @skiesti_ posted a version featuring Mercy from Overwatch that gained over 1,500 likes in a day,

Later that day, Redditor u/Smash_Z posted a meme to /r/darkestdungeon[5] using the speech code in relation to Darkest Dungeon character Reynauld, garnering over 640 upvotes in under 24 hours.

On March 4th, Instagram[6] user tartagliapostings posted a video using the format in which several characters from Genshin Impact say the quote in the speech bubble via artificial intelligence, garnering over 780 likes in under four hours.
