Chill Bill refers to a villain character in the video game Skylanders: Trap Team. In the early 2020s, Chill Bill earned meme attention for his catchphrase "I aim to freeze," his theme song known as the Chill Bill Theme Song as well as via usage in exploitables, as in, his image was added to various meme templates with varying captions in a nonsensical way. Chill Bill memes trended en masse in mid-2023, following the virality of the Chill Bill Theme Song on TikTok, specifically due to a remix of the song that mashed it with Kanye West's song "Touch the Sky."

Origin

Memes about Chill Bill predominantly started in mid-2022 on TikTok, later spreading to Reddit. Currently, the first discovered, viral Chill Bill meme was posted by TikToker^[1] @chill_bill7 on July 17th, 2022. The video was a screen recording of text messages in which every message sent was a video of Chill Bill's theme song. Over the course of one year, the video gained roughly 1.1 million plays and 100,700 likes (shown below).

Going into August 2022, TikToker @chill_bill7 continued to post memes featuring Chill Bill. For instance, on August 3rd, 2022, TikToker^[2] @chill_bill7 posted a video that used a CapCut template, gaining roughly 1 million plays and 150,100 likes in 11 months (shown below, left). On August 18th, 2022, TikToker^[3] @binny_____ posted a video of a man playing a piano on fire, labeling it as the composers who wrote Chill Bill's theme. The video gained roughly 808,900 plays and 138,100 likes in 11 months (shown below, right).

Image-based memes featuring Chill Bill started to appear around the same time, predominantly in photo slideshows on TikTok. For instance, on August 22nd, 2022, iFunnier ^[4] @longbonghongyong posted an image that used Chill Bill, originally posted on "The Official Boombringer 360 Lobby" Discord server by a user "Mista" on August 11th^[5], gaining roughly 1,700 smiles in 11 months (shown below, left). Soon after, the images started surfacing on Reddit, such as a post to /r/memes ^[5] from Redditor shinjiman101 on September 19th, which received over 250 upvotes in 10 months (shown below, right).

Chill Bill TikTok Photo Slideshows

Predominantly starting in July 2023, Chill Bill memes had a resurgence on TikTok via photo slideshows that zoomed into the backgrounds of iconic images to reveal Chill Bill within them. The first slideshow of this nature was posted by TikToker^[6] @rufusnodoofus on July 4th, 2023, and it revealed Chill Bill in a Five Nights at Freddy's setting. Over the course of six days, it received roughly 360,300 plays and 66,600 likes (photos shown below).

I Aim To Freeze

"I aim to freeze" refers to Chill Bill's catchphrase which he often states in Skylanders: Trap Team. Viral memes and videos using the catchphrase started to surface in July 2023, coinciding with Chill Bill's resurgence on TikTok. For instance, on July 8th, 2023, TikToker^[7] @chillbillofficial posted a video that referenced My Honest Reaction, gaining roughly 317,700 plays and 48,300 likes in two days (shown below).
