About
Doug the Pug is a pug dog from Nashville, Tennessee. Known for his popular web presence, the dog has also been the subject of a best-selling book: Doug the Pug: King of Pop Culture, which was released in 2016. As of April 2019, Doug is the most followed pug on the internet.
Origin
Doug was purchased from a breeder in Tennessee in 2012.[1] On July 9th, 2019, Doug's owner Leslie Mosier posted the first picture of Doug on Instagram. [2] She wrote, "I got my little (well, now he's a bit fatter) guy exactly a year ago. This was the first picture that the breeder ever sent me of him. I still squeal when I see it." As of April 2019, the post has more than 8,300 likes (shown below).
Spread
On October 2nd, 2014, the first image of Doug was posted on Facebook. [3] The post received more than 1,000 reactions, 100 comments and 85 shares (shown below, left). Later that month, on October 29th, 2014, Doug's Twitter [4] account launched with his first post (shown below, right). Within five years, the account has more than 2 million followers.
On November 1st, 2016, Doug the Pug released a book entitled Doug the Pug: The King of Pop Culture.[5] The book appeared on the New York Times bestsellers list.
The following year, on July 9th, 2017, a video parody of Spider-man was released on YouTube. As of April 2019, the video has more than 2 million views (shown below).
