About
Drawing Trains As Dragons is an anthro/furry art trend which involves artists drawing various models of trains as anthropomorphic dragons. The trend started on Tumblr, but quickly spread to Twitter in June of 2023.
Origin
The trend originated on June 21st, 2023, when Tumblr user butch-dragongirl made a post saying "i think we should start turning trains into furry dragons like we did with airplanes", and posted an example using an EMD SD40-2 with RCPE blue and yellow livery.[1] The image (shown below, left) received over 6,200 likes and over 4,500 reblogs in over one week. A screencap was made of the post (shown below, right) and was reposted to Twitter by KBCFox1994 on June 24th, 2023,[2] where it received over 17,800 likes and over 3,300 retweets in over one week.
Spread
After the Twitter repost, artists on the platform quickly took to the trend. On June 29th, 2023, Twitter user @WanderingWastes[3] posted a piece that gained over 3,500 retweets and 17,000 likes in less than a week (shown below, left). The following day, user @MyLovelessArt[4] posted a piece that gained over 220 retweets and 1,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).
