Femboy Milk / Tomboy Milk

About

Femboy Milk and Tomboy Milk refer to a series of memes centered around photoshopped jugs of milk labeled either "femboy milk" or "tomboy milk," including memes in which a subject is offered a choice between the two. The memes were first posted online in 2020 and became increasingly popular over the following years.

Origin

On October 30th, 2020, a now-deleted Redditor posted a photoshop of a plastic container of milk with a label reading "Tomboy Milk" and a tomboy anime girl in a cow outfit on it to /r/animemes,^[1] garnering over 1,700 upvotes in four years (shown below, left). The meme was reposted several times over the following weeks, including by Facebook^[2] page Ｔｏｍｂｏｙ　Ｔｏｍｏ　ラ汚苛 on November 1st, garnering over 1,300 reactions in four years.

On November 5th, X^[3] user @PlayboiCummi posted the tomboy milk image next to a photoshop of the same milk jug, this time reading "femboy milk," writing, "What milk you drinking," garnering around 95 likes in four years (shown below, right). This is the earliest known post to share the femboy milk variant, although may not be the true original.

Spread

The images continued to spread as memes over the following years. On November 23rd, 2020, a screenshot of a comment left under a repost of the femboy milk was posted to /r/cursedcomments,^[4] garnering over 3,400 upvotes in four years (shown below, left). On November 26th, a screenshot of an Instagram poll asking users to choose between the two milks, with tomboy winning out, was posted to /r/196,^[5] garnering over 700 upvotes in four years (shown below, right).

On September 19th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @dego_g posted a meme in which they inserted a clip of Nikocado Avocado drinking milk underneath the femboy milk meme, garnering over 200,000 views in 10 months (shown below).

On September 22nd, a meme using both milk images was posted to /r/goodanimemes,^[7] garnering over 1,500 upvotes in 10 months (shown below, left). On October 23rd, a meme was posted to /r/Genshin_Memepact,^[8] in which the characters on the milk are replaced with Genshin Impact characters, garnering over 2,400 upvotes in nine months (shown below, right).

On June 20th, 2024, a version of the meme was posted to /r/overlord^[9] that gained over 5,700 upvotes in a month. On July 18th, X^[10] user @shitpost_2077 posted a video of a meme using the image, garnering over 28,000 likes in under a day (shown below).
