About
IT'S OVER refers to a series of captioned image macros and reaction images using a person, character, animal or Wojak that is making a sad, defeated or depressed face.
Origin
The caption originated from an article published on October 14th, 2016, by The Huffington Post about the 2016 United States Presidential Election. The article announced that Donald Trump's presidential run was over, following a "disastrous week" and that Republican states were flipping for Hillary Clinton. The article that contained the captioned image (shown below, left) has been deleted, but a screenshot of it (shown below, right) was posted on October 16th, 2016, by Medium user Elizabeth Mika.[1]
Spread
The image spread throughout 4chan, particularly on /pol/ where it gained particular attention,[2][3] being posted over 1105 times ever since.[4] The meme went through a revival during the 2020 United States Presidential Election, with a Joe Biden variant being posted on /pol/ on November 6th, 2020 (shown below, left),[5] and a similar one with the caption "IT'S JOEVER" on October 15th, 2020 (shown below, right).[6]
