About
Megan's "Interesting" refers to a memorable scene from the episode "Mindy Loves Josh" of American sitcom Drake & Josh in which character Megan Parker looks at a computer screen while holding a can of Mocha-Cola in her hand and says "Interesting." Online, a still image paired with the quote gained popularity as a reaction, often used in reference to the discovery of intriguing or condemning information.
Origin
On October 22nd, 2006, episode "Mindy Loves Josh" of the American TV series Drake & Josh premiered.[1] In one scene of the episode, character Megan Parker, portrayed by Miranda Cosgrove, is shown looking up symptoms of a skin disease on a computer, at one point taking a sip from a soft drink can and commenting "Interesting" (shown below).
There are some rumored home remedies but they are highly unpleasant and may or may not be effective in curing Derma Temeculitus. Interesting.
On December 30th, 2015, Tumblr user commongayboy posted meme based on the scene which gained over 112,200 likes and reblogs in three years.[2]
Spread
In the following days, more users on Tumblr posted memes based on the image,[3] while on Twitter it gained popularity as a reaction.[4][5] For example, January 5th, 2016, post by Tumblr user thesejulez garnered over 1,300 notes in three years (shown below, left).[3] On July 29th, 2017, Tumblr user thebootydiaries posted the first known edit of the image, with the post gaining over 34,500 likes and reblogs in three years (shown below, right).[6]
In the following years, the image saw a stable use as a reaction image on Twitter, also gaining significant popularity on Reddit.
2021 Remake
Megan's 'Interesting' (2021) refers to a screenshot from the opening credits of the 2021 iCarly reboot recreating the original Megan's Interesting format, based on a screenshot of the same actress, Miranda Cosgrove, sitting at a computer saying "interesting" from Drake and Josh. The theme song for the iCarly reboot was teased on the streaming service Paramount+ on June 9th, 2021, with the screenshot going viral over the next week.
