About
Mohg, Lord of Blood is a game character and end-game boss from the hit title Elden Ring by FromSoftware. The character is the twin brother of Morgott the Omen King, and blood-relative of General Radahn and Malenia, Blade of Miquella. Similar to Morgott, he can be faced twice, with his second encounter being much harder and with a new mechanic added in.
Origin
Mohg, Lord of Blood came out with the rest of the characters in the game on February 25th, 2022. However, unlike other major characters, he was much less known, as reaching either of his forms required traversing through optional areas that the game didn't directly point you to. Because of this, Mohg, Lord of Blood, ended up being one of the later characters met during a typical run of the game, despite his enormous lore implications within the greater story. Much of the early memes surrounding Mohg came from his fight, which is incredibly difficult and features a mid-fight mechanic that can only be counteracted by finding one of two optional flask upgrades that are out of the way of a normal run. This is referenced in the meme posted to the Subreddit r/EldenRing by the Redditor[1] Suspicious-One-9471 on March 11th, 2022 (shown below).
Spread
In-game, Mohg is seen as a shadowy leader who has followers devoted to him, called the bloody fingers, that try to invade your playthrough in multiple areas. Through a questline to try and become a bloody finger yourself, the player can be teleported near Mohg earlier than usual, under the guise that they will seek to align themselves with Mohg, with the promise of power. This promise of power for those who help to build up his future dynasty has led to memes being made about Mohg calling them a pyramid scheme scammer, and someone who lies. This can be seen in the meme uploaded to iFunny by the user pollo[2] in which Mohg texts the player to show up at the fight arena for Sloppy, which is a trick.
After the initial memes were made about the fight itself, and more people worked to figure out the lore of the game, it was more widely known in the community that Mohg was intending to cure the ailing demigod Miquella and have them be the foundation of an empire named the Mohgwyn empire. The issue with this lies in Miquella's affliction made them perpetually young, meaning Mohg was obsessing over a Legal Loli, which made the community brand him a lolicon, inciting many memes. On March 26th, 2022, the Redditor Mkrazcal[3] submitted a meme to the r/EldenRing subreddit in which Mohg is attempting to abduct Miquella from an indoor ballpit, earning 3,500 upvotes in three weeks (shown below).
