We Are Fucking Under Attack is a series of reaction images of a mock online video game ad in which a woman stands in front of a digital city and the text "we are fucking under attack." The image parodies video games such as Game of War and their advertisements.

Origin

The earliest known usage of the image was published on the Tumblr ^[1] chloeniccole, who captioned the post "Me!" The post (shown below) received more than 11,000 notes in four months.

Spread

Several months later, on May 22nd, Tumblr^[2] user code-aeyeeta posted an edited version of the image with the caption "jeremie every episode," referring to the character Jeremi from the cartoon Code Lyoko (shown below, left).

Later that week, on May 29th, Twitter ^[3] user @mstaint posted the original image and received more than 160 retweets and 670 likes in less than one month.

Days later, on June 4th, the image grew in popularity on Twitter, after user @bkfstcorndogs^[4] used the image as a punchline to the caption, "Work: *gets slightly busy* Me:" The post (shown below, center) received more than 11,000 retweets and 32,000 likes.

Three days later, Twitter^[5] user @jsphdeal tweeted, "stranger: *walks past my house minding their own business* my dog:" The post (shown below, right) received more than 15,000 retweets and 46,000 likes in less than one month.
