4Kids One Piece Rap, also known as the "Pirate Rap" or "Gum-Gum Rap", was the opening song to the 4Kids version of One Piece. The song has been used in several fan cover videos and parodies.

Origin

The song could first be heard on the premiere of the 4Kids version of One Piece, which first aired on Fox's "FoxBox" kids programming block, which later became 4Kids TV, on September 18th, 2004, until December 6th, 2006, on Cartoon Network's Toonami block when the dub was officially dropped.[1] The song was unique in that it added characters to the lyrics as they joined the Straw Hat Pirates, with the last character being Tony Chopper (third and final version shown below). The song was created and sung by Shawn Conrad, who was an audio engineer for 4Kids at the time. The earliest known reupload was to YouTube by DragonBlaze67[2] on October 14th, 2009, where it received over 5.3 million views in over 14 years.

On April 1st, 2018, YouTube user CyYu Music (We.B)[3] posted a cover of the One Piece Rap. The cover (shown below) received over 363,000 views in over six years.

On August 30th, 2021, Shawn Freshco Conrad,[4] the original creator of the One Piece Rap, posted an updated version of the song to YouTube which features all of the current Straw Hat Pirates. The video (shown below, left) received over 161,000 views in over two years. On December 7th, 2021, YouTube user Thomas-LF[5] posted a video which used parts of Shawn Conrad's updated version of the song along with more recent scenes from the One Piece anime. The video (shown below, right) received over 714,000 views in over two years.

On December 10th, 2021, YouTube user ProZD[6] posted a version of the One Piece Rap that he voiced which has some of the character names and song lyrics misremembered by his mother. The video (shown below) received over 372,000 views in over two years.

On June 27th, 2023, YouTube user OfftenT[7] posted a short animatic of the song using the current Straw Hat Pirates which received over 4.3 million views in one year. Later, OffenT[8] later posted a full version of the animatic of the song to YouTube on August 5th, 2023. The full animatic (shown below, left) received over 2.5 million views in eleven months. On September 11th, 2023, YouTube user Kelvin Does Things[9] posted a video which uses the original One Piece Rap along with video from the Netflix Live Action version of One Piece. The video (shown below, right) received over 363,000 views in ten months.
