Do We Have To Sit Like This? is a redraw meme format based on a scene from Parks and Recreation in which Tom Haverford asks Chris Traeger, who is sitting unnecessarily close to him on a couch while they talk, "Do we need to sit like this?" The scene comes from 2013's season five episode 16, "Bailout," and became the subject of redraws as early as October 2016 on X / Twitter, garnering viral spread over the following years.
Origin
On March 14th, 2013, Parks and Recreation season five, episode 16, titled "Bailout," aired. At one point in the episode, Chris Traeger talks with Tom Haverford on a couch at an uncomfortable close distance, resulting in Tom saying, "Do we need to sit like this?"
On October 12th, 2016, X[1] user @ravefirell posted a redraw based on the scene replacing the characters with Mob Psycho 100 characters, garnering over 400 likes in nine years. This is the earliest known redraw of the meme, but may not be the first.

Spread
The format garnered viral spread over the following years. On April 7th, 2020, u/jauheliha posted a redraw of the meme to /r/danganronpa[2] that garnered over 1,700 upvotes in five years.

On March 22nd, 2022, X[3] user @DZ_4589 posted a redraw of the meme featuring characters from Jujutsu Kaisen, garnering over 7,000 likes in three years.

On March 8th, 2025, Tumblr[4] user chiliger posted a redraw of the meme featuring D-16 and Bumblebee from Transformers, garnering over 2,100 notes in five days.
