Donald Trump's Tiny Desk refers to a series of memes mocking the size of United States President Donald Trump's desk during a news conference.
Origin
On November 26th, 2020, President Trump hosted a news conference at the White House. During the news conference, the President criticized members of the press, calling one reporter a lightweight and saying, "Don't talk to me that way. You're just a lightweight. Don't talk to me that -- I'm the president of the United States. Don't ever talk to the president that way."
Spread
That day, people began mocking the desk Trump used during the conference on Twitter. Twitter[1] user @iamTannenbaum tweeted the image with the caption, "Trump: it’s a normal size desk? desk guy (barely keeping it together): yea." The tweet received more than 122,000 likes and 9,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below, left).
Others referenced other memes within the desk jokes. For example, Twitter[2] user @LibyaLiberty tweeted the Trump Yelling at Lawn-mowing Boy meme with the caption, "THANKS FOR LENDING ME YOUR DESK." The tweet received more than 78,000 likes and 6,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below, center). Twitter[3] user @ohhelloitsmax tweeted a I Am Going to Create An Environment That Is So Toxic variation that said, "I am going to create a desk that is so tiny." The tweet received more than 2,000 likes and 120 retweets in less than one week (shown below, right).
On November 27th, Redditor DaFunkJunkie posted the image in the /r/pics[4] subreddit. The post received more than 29,000 points (87% upvoted) and 950 comments in less than one week. That day, Redditor IHaveNeverEatenACat shared the picture in the /r/politics[5] subreddit, where they received more than 10,000 points (97% upvoted) and 840 comments in less than one week.
