My Birkin, Another Birkin or the My Birkin TikTok Trend refers to a comedic lip dub trend on TikTok where users show two things that are similar, then highlight their differences. The trend uses the original sound of a viral video where TikToker @charlesgross showcases two Birkin bags and discusses their differences. The trend became popular in July 2022.

Origin

On March 19th, 2022, TikToker^[1] @charlesgross posted a sponsored video where he presents one Birkin bag, saying, "My Birkin," then another bigger, more slouchy Birkin, saying, "another Birkin," and goes on to discuss what makes the two bags different and what about them "divides the Hermes collector community" (shown below). The video gained over 1.9 million views in four months.

In July, TikTokers began using the video's original sound in lip dub videos where they present two similar things. The earliest known video to do this was posted by TikToker^[2] @itseverything420 on July 3rd, where she shows two novelty marijuana pipes, gaining over 245,000 views in three weeks (shown below).

Spread

The trend spread over the course of the month, inspiring over 12,800 videos under the original sound by July 29th, 2022. On July 18th, TikToker^[3] @oliversimsiv posted a video comparing forks at Chipotle, gaining over 900,000 views in just under two weeks (shown below, left). On July 19th, TikToker^[4] @potroastsmom posted a video comparing her cats using the sound, gaining over 2.4 million views in 10 days (shown below, right).

On July 24th, TikToker^[5] @uhhhhhhlayna posted a video comedically comparing herself, a bi-racial person, to Zendaya, also bi-racial, gaining over 3.7 million views in five days (shown below). On July 27th, Yahoo! Finance^[6] reported on the trend.
