Big Ed is the nickname for 90 Day Finacé: Before the 90 Days castmember Ed Brown, who appeared in the fourth season of the reality television series. Following his introduction, Big Ed inspired a number of memes based on his appearance and relationship with romantic partner Rose.

Online History

On February 23rd, 2020, the fourth season of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days premiered in the United States. This season follows the romantic relationship of Ed Brown and Rose Vega. Ed, who is from California, met Rose, who is from the Philippines, online, and hoped to propose to her when they met on the show.^[1]

That day, TLC, the station that airs the series, posted a clip from the episode on YouTube. The post received more than 1.8 million views (shown below).

Following the episode, people began posting jokes about the moment. For example, on his Instagram ^[2] page, Big Ed posted an illustration of himself putting mayonnaise in his hair. The post received more than 325 likes in less than three months (shown below, left).

Over the next few months, people joked about Big Ed online, particularly focusing on his neck. Brown has Klippel Feil syndrome, which affects the appearance of his neck.^[5] Twitter^[3] user @runolgarun tweeted, "oh no zeke pointed out that big ed from the new season of 90 day fiance looks like the hypothetical man a bunch of scientists designed to survive a car collision." The tweet received more than 360 likes in less than two months (shown below, right).

On April 10th, 2020, TLC published a video entitled "Big Ed Showers with Rose's Dad!" The post received more than 6.1 million views in less than one month (shown below, left). 10 days later, on April 20th, Redditor ^[4] watty3000 posted a screenshot of a YouTube comment that reads, "He looks like the germ from the Mucinex commercial." The post received more than 50,000 points (95% upvoted) and 530 comments in less than one month (shown below, right).

On April 24th, PewDiePie published a video on Big Ed putting mayonnaise in his hair. The post received more than 7.3 million views (shown below, right).

The #biged hashtag has more than 48.5 million views. These video feature remixes of Big Ed's segments on the show (examples below).
