When Your Song Comes On In the Car refers to a series of jokes on Twitter in which the poster writes the snowclone "When (X Song) comes on in the car" accompanied by an image of a person in a car playing an instrument.
Origin
The earliest known instance of this post was tweet on November 2nd, 2014 by @shawn_that_sob,[1] who tweeted an image of a driver playing violin in his car captioned, "when "still tippin" come on in the car." The tweet gained over 1,100 retweets and 1,300 likes (shown below).
Spread
The joke format did not spread widely until the beginning of 2017, following a December 31st, 2016 tweet by @rwxoxo[2] that used the same image with the caption "when "overnight celebrity" comes on the radio." The tweet has gained over 9,000 retweets and likes as of January 5th, 2017 (shown below).
After @rwxoxo's post, several more variations appeared, with different images of people playing instruments in cars. The spread of the jokes made Twitter Moments[3] on January 3rd, 2017.
