Kindness Luigi refers to a fan-made hopecore music video about "Kindness Luigi," a pink version of Luigi from Super Mario defined by his overwhelming kindness. A contrafact of "On Melancholy Hill" by Gorillaz, the song inspired covers and fan art in the following weeks after appearing in mid-April 2025.

Origin

On April 15th, 2025, YouTuber^[1] foxwithguns2 posted a music video titled "Kindness Luigi," a contrafact of the song "On Melancholy Hill" by Gorillaz about "Kindness Luigi" being nice and doing kind things. The audio is accompanied by modded gameplay of Super Mario 64, with Mario's model replaced with a version of Luigi with pink skin and dressed in magenta-colored overalls. The video (shown below) received over 72,000 views in one month.

Despite what the lyrics claim, Luigi does not appear in the original Super Mario 64 game, but does appear exclusively in the Nintendo DS version of the video game.^[2]

Spread

On April 22nd, 2025, YouTube user Skylarcat3 covered the song, with the cover (shown below) gaining over 5,100 views on YouTube^[3] in three weeks. On April 30th, YouTuber^[4] Prestorm posted a Hatsune Miku cover that garnered over 2,100 views in three weeks.

In the weeks following the release of the original video, users on X / Twitter and Bluesky posted fan art of Kindness Luigi as the character continued to spread online.

For example, on May 4th, 2025, artist SquiddoSquid posted fan art that received over 20 reposts and 70 likes on X^[5] and 20 reposts and 90 likes on Bluesky^[6] in 10 days (shown below).
