SpongeBoy Me Bob, or SpongeBob Me Boy, refers to a quote from Mr. Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants. In the late 2010s, the phrase saw use in shitpost image macros in which Krabs says "Spongeboy Me Bob!" then announces something jarringly serious.

Origin

Mr. Krabs used the phrase "Spongeboy Me Bob!" in the season one Spongebob Squarepants episode "Squeaky Boots," which aired September 4th, 1999.^[1] After stealing Spongebob's prized boots, Mr. Krabs is wracked with guilt. When he is approached by Spongebob, he attempts to act normal and flubs Spongebob's name (shown below).

Spread

On December 6th, 2018, a deleted Reddit user posted an image of Mr. Krabs saying the phrase before talking about war to /r/BikiniBottomTwitter,^[2] gaining over 280 points (shown below, left). On February 26th, 2019, Redditor MagikMagic posted an edit to /r/okaybuddyretard^[6] that gained over 270 points (shown below, right).

The template for the meme would be solidified several months later due to Instagram user monocularadventures. On March 27th, 2019, the user posted a deep fried image of Mr. Krabs saying the phrase and gave a reading of the image's text. The clip gained over 11,000 views (shown below, top). Over the following several days, the user made several similar posts. Their most popular, posted April 11th, gained over 86,000 views (shown below, bottom).

From monocularadventures, the template spread to Reddit's shitposting communities, and spawned a subreddit, /r/spongebobmeboy,^[3] that gained over 4,200 members. There, top posts include a post by AsscrackOreos^[4] that gained over 670 points (shown below, left) and a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure reference posted by BigBoyMoveulus that gained over 540 points^[5] (shown below, right).
