"We Did It, Patrick! We Saved the City!" is memorable quote by SpongeBob from an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. Online, people have used the scene as a reaction image, image macro, catchphrase and the inspiration for YouTube remixes.

Origin

On February 17th, 2001, the second two episode "Wormy" of SpongeBob SquarePants aired on Nickelodeon. In the episode, the characters SpongeBob and Patrick care for their friend Sandy's pet caterpillar.^[1] When the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, it reeks havoc on the their town of Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob and Patrick worn the community, resulting destructive chaos that leaves the town burning. Afterwards, thinking that their plan worked, SpongeBob says, "We did it, Patrick! We saved the city!"

Spread

On June 6th, 2013, Twitter^[2] user @icomedylife tweeted a screenshot from the moment with the catchphrase as a caption. The post (shown below) received more than 260 retweets and 150 likes in four years.

Two years later, on May 1st, 2015, the image of Patrick and SpongeBob became the basis for a Meme Generator template. Over the past two years, more than 140 posts have been made using the image (examples below).

Later that year, on December 13th, YouTuber ^[3] Chaosthecrow posted a clip of the moment (shown below, left), garnering more than 34,000 views. The following year, on February 6th, 2016, YouTuber^[4] TheOnlyMike4082 posted a video of SpongeBob and Patrick superimposed into Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and saying the line. The video (shown below, right) received more than 4,700 views in a year and a half.
