About

We Geek Hard, also known as Told Bro We Geek Hard, is a catchphrase (associated with the TikTok trend of Nodding, also known as Laker Brady) that uses the drug-related slang term "geek" (or "geeking") and champions being high on drugs like benzos or amphetamines. The phrase was originally I Told Her Dumbass We Geek Hard due to the initial viral tweet that started it. As stated, the catchphrase was popularized due to the influence of rappers like Joeyy and Shed Theory, which led many to label videos of so-called "tweakers" with the phrase.

Origin

On December 14th, 2022, the X[1] account @WFLA posted about a developing story, involving a female officer who'd been accidentally exposed to the drug fentanyl. The tweet included a bodycam photo of her on the ground, seemingly in a drug-induced state. On the day, a currently unknown X user by the name of Brock /(-3-)/ quote retweeted @WFLA, writing, "i told her dumb ass we geek hard" (shown below). The first known repost of the QRT was shared by TikToker[2] @mkxxixxosdjgggzjz on December 21st, 2022, in a photo slideshow which received roughly 282,600 plays and 51,400 likes in eight months.

Spread

The aforementioned QRT then gained reposts on Instagram[3] and X[4] going into late 2022. Soon after, variations of the phrasal template "I Told X We Geek Hard" surfaced in memes. For instance, one of the first known was posted by X[5] user @tofugoIem on March 6th, 2023, who caption a bug photo with, "told his bug ass we geek hard," gaining over 540 likes in five months (shown below, left). On April 6th, 2023, Instagram[6] user @__stendo__ captioned a dog photo with a variant phrase (shown below, right). @__stendo__ hid the post's like count.
