Can We Go To Heaven With Tattoos? is a viral screenshot of a Google search result for the query, "Can we go to heaven with tattoos?" resulting in an answer claiming that people with tattoos, drink alcohol, eat too much pork or are short will not go to heaven. The exploitable image was originally posted to Facebook in February 2020 and gained viral spread over the following years, often with reaction images attached to the bottom of the image. The meme is similar to the How Long Do Emos Live format.
Origin
On February 28th, 2020, the Facebook[1] page Writophobia posted a screenshot of a Google search for the term "can we go to heaven with tattoos," garnering over 280 reactions and 240 shares in three years (shown below). It was then reposted by Instagram[2] user ghostanddarknessbrand that day, garnering over 3,100 likes in the same span of time.
Spread
The meme gained viral spread over the following years, often attached to an additional reaction image underneath the screenshot. On March 2nd, 2020, Redditor[3] rorymitchell2 posted a version of the meme to /r/memes with the I'm Sorry Little One reaction, garnering over 71,000 upvotes in three years (shown below, left). That day, Redditor Akashsiri also posted a version of the meme to /r/dankmemes,[4] this time with the Excuse Me What The F--k reaction, garnering over 57,000 upvotes in the same span of time (shown below, right).
On December 15th, 2020, the Facebook[5] page Satan Everything posted the original meme, garnering over 160,000 shares and 48,000 reactions in three years. On September 7th, 2021, Instagram[6] user grandmas.butt posted the original meme, garnering over 136,000 likes in two years. On October 30th, YouTuber[10] Misan then posted a TF2 animation referencing the meme, garnering over 12,000 views in two years (shown below).
On October 11th, 2022, Twitter[7] user @lookabee83 also posted the meme, garnering over 55,000 likes in six months. On October 13th and 14th, HITC[8] and The Sun[9] then published articles about the meme. On April 4th, 2023, Twitter[11] user @s8n posted the meme, writing, "wtf did short people do," garnering over 98,000 likes in a day.
